Absolutely! You are very welcome to join as a German student.
You can only start become a volunteer once in Germany. You can, however, already subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Instagram.
As a member of DEGIS, you can build a strong network of like-minded and ambitious people who also want to make a difference. You’ll have access to events, workshops, conferences and our Buddy System, while developing valuable leadership skills alongside a wide range of hard and soft skills.
Student volunteering is highly valued by employers in Germany and around the world. For international students in particular, volunteering can help you build connections, develop practical skills and gain experiences that you can showcase on your CV, all of which can support your career journey in Germany.
Yes, you can be both.
Volunteers have an active role in DEGIS and commit time to their responsibilities within the organisation. They take part in regular meetings and events, develop practical skills and have access to additional benefits such as a volunteering certificate and special training opportunities.
Community members are part of the wider DEGIS community through our newsletter, social media and public events. They can take part in the activities and opportunities DEGIS offers, but they are not expected to commit time or take on responsibilities within the organisation.
So you can be a community member without being a volunteer, but every volunteer is also part of the DEGIS community.
Depending on your team, you’ll take on responsibilities that contribute to the DEGIS mission. Within your City Chapter, you’ll also have the freedom to choose what you’d like to get involved in, so there’s plenty of flexibility.
You might organise community events, workshops or trips, support community initiatives, build relationships with your university, connect with local businesses, create social media content, or lead a project team. You can decide how much responsibility you’d like to take on and explore different areas as you go.
Whatever you choose, the goal is to learn, contribute and, most importantly, have fun along the way.
