10 DeGiS scholarships

DeGiS’ vision  is to build Germany's largest network of international students - cross-university, cross-city, Germany-wide. We bring together open-minded talents from all over the world by organising city circles, networking events and by organising inspiring mentorship programs. Besides, one very important pillar is the financial support of at least 10 eligible students with our ISCG scholarship.

The scholarship includes:

  • 6 months 200€ financial support
  • Life-long free DeGiS membership
  • Guaranteed place in mentorship program
  • Priority for application as city ambassador
  • Invitation to a scholars’ weekend in Berlin

This certainly sounds interesting to you if you want to engage with fellow international students and want to fill-up your pocket money a bit at the same time. The scholarship of course is open to everyone. Nevertheless, DeGiS’ has certain premises for the application and the selection process.

How to apply for the DeGiS scholarship?

For your application we need a convincing application which will be assessed by us and our partners. This follows a selection process based on the following transparent criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time students in Germany.
  • Engaged in convincing extracurricular activities on societal/social/political causes.
  • Extraordinary academic results.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), additional language (especially German) desired.
  • Motivation and dedication towards representing DeGiS.
  • You are a full-time student in Germany and you have the intention to stay in Germany after your graduation.
  • You perform and you have performed extracurricular social activities.
  • You have an extraordinary record including academic results.
  • You speak and write English with proficiency and you speak or intend to learn German.
  • You are motivated to represent ISCG as an ambassador in your university, city, Germany and home country.

If you see yourself meeting this criteria we kindly ask you to provide us with the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Motivation letter (max. 300 words in the style of a “Creative Essay”)
  • Recommendation letter
  • Certificate of enrollment (can be handed in later)
  • Other certificates (optional)

The creative essay

As an international student you have experienced a lot so far. You will make it to Germany and you are excited about that endeavour. As you have learned about the entire relocation process so far, you want to share this with fellow international students and those who will come in subsequent years - but how?

In your short essay (max. 300 words) you describe what you have experienced, how that felt, what the particularities of your home country are and ultimately how you envisage to share your learnings with others to ease their way to Germany.

Timeline for spring scholarship 2020

  • Application Deadline: Applications are open until November, 30th 2019. After sending your application, you will receive a confirmation of receipt.
  • Selection round 1: personal telephone interviews with considered applicants.
  • Selection round 2: in a personal meeting in Berlin, the next batch of scholars will be selected.
  • Start of scholarship program: the program will officially start on March 1st, 2020.
